TSBT35: Tours, Code and Chuckles
"The essence of strategy is choosing what not to do," - Michael Porter
Last week, I enjoyed attending the Microsoft AI tour in London. I was so surprised by the turnout, specifically because it was in the middle of the week. Then again, this was the first Microsoft-specific event I attended as a Microsoft MVP, so everything was new.
I loved the whole experience. I got to Proctor two workshops on building a retail Copilot code-first on Azure AI and attend one more workshop on building your first agent with Azure AI Agent Service.
Debugging on the fly, explaining concepts and their underlying effects, and interacting with people during the workshop were all invigorating. I will submit a workshop proposal to the next conference CFP I apply to. I loved it; I had so much fun. The best part was meeting other MVPs and my new regional community manager.

Last year, Notion transitioned from a single database to a shared system and then a data warehouse due to performance and cost issues. They implemented a hybrid architecture to address these issues by building an in-house data lake and using technologies like Kafka and Hudi for incremental and efficient data processing. The hybrid architecture allowed them to improve data freshness and cost-effectiveness and support advanced features like AI. They have all of these details in their blog. ByteByteGo also covered this in detail here.
Now that we have mentioned sharding from the above, we can learn what sharding is and all its nuances in this detailed blog post.
