TSBT01: Debut of The Storyteller's Byte Tales

Tabula rasa

Psst, hey you! Got a minute for a chat?

We just got started in this beautiful year, and you are doing great. Shifting from holiday month to grind month is wild. Figuring out new resolutions, being good at your craft, and other life things in which you are involved is a lot. Allow me to make your day a bit better by engaging with me 😊.

This newsletter aims to make you smile for a minute and remind you that every small step counts. I will share articles with my thought bubbles on software engineering, business, movies, and books.

Now that we are from binging Netflix we might as well understand the underlying of it. This article takes you through the different microservices and what gets the movie to show on your device. Some of the examples involve the House of Cards, which is a good show I highly recommend. It's detailed and simple to understand. If you are also curious about the tech stack used this is a good resource.

Django is one of my favorite frameworks to use. Django 5.0 was released last year on December 4th with some exciting updates. The updates include modifications to the prefetch-related feature. Prefetch-related now supports prefetching generic foreign keys with non-homogenous result sets. What does this even mean? I have a collection of games like Cards and Legos in a room. On some days, I may want to see different games at once. Prefetching is like having an assistant that gathers the needed cards, such as Poker Cards, and puts them in one place for you to access. Now I am bored. I don't know what I want to play with. In this case, non-homogeneity comes into play. Your assistant can get you a surprise mix of Cards and Legos you can play with. A sample of the games could include Iron Man Legos and Poker Cards with a Marvel theme. Sarah Boyce explains other Django updates in this video. If you prefer reading to following a video, check out this article. A new version also means that you need to update your project. This article by Eric Matthes shows you how to update your project seamlessly.

If you're interested in learning about Kubernetes, here is a list of articles to you get started. I like the list since you can choose what you want to read, whether an in-depth or a short article. Another resource is this list for open source lovers and enthusiasts. Book recommendations from DevOps engineers include the Unicorn project and the Phoenix project for starters. If you want to build projects as you learn, this post has a document with detailed steps on how to achieve that. KubeCon EU is also happening in Paris, France on the 19th - 22nd March, a good place to meet other folks in the cloud native space to learn and network.

Based on the research carried out by Buck Lawrimore, from the best-selling books and practical, experienced clients, there are five key success factors of business. The key factors are strategy, people, operations, marketing and finance. Learn more about the succes factors when it comes to businesses in detail.

I am currently reading The Psychology of Money by Morgan Housel. And before you start judging me, yes, I started the book last year but stopped for a reason I can hardly remember. However, starting the book once more, I got an excerpt that can tell you about what to expect if you decide to read it too.

The premise of this book is that doing well with money has little to do with how smart you are and a lot to do with how you behave. And behaviour is hard to teach, even to smart people.

A genius who loses control of their emotions can be a financial disaster. The opposite is also true. Ordinary folks with no financial education can be wealthy if they have a handful of behavioural skills that have nothing to do with formal measures of intelligence.

My reaction:

The word of the day is Cardinality. Cardinality in mathematics is the number of elements in a set. In database management, cardinality shows the relationship between objects, like one-to-one, one-to-many, and many-to-many.

I am out! Remember, my beloved mortals, this year the motto is “no gree for anybody” Go forth, and may the odds be ever in your favor.
