TSBT73: Pumpkin Spice Bytes
“Whenever you read a book, somewhere in the world a door opens to allow more light”- Vera Nazarian
Autumn, the time when everything is flavoured with pumpkin. My dear reader, happy new episode of Ted Lasso! I enjoy Ted a little more than I should, but I do not agree with him on Arthur’s barbecue sauce. I prefer the taste of the original Gates barbecue sauce.
In other interesting news, it's been a few weeks since DjangoCon US, and I could not help but reminisce about the time I joined Will on the escapades to the Art Institute of Chicago. It was so fun looking at various art and bonding, of course; that’s how I learned what an artistic background Will has. I had such a good time. Hopefully I get to tag along with Will on the next escapade at a different conference somewhere in the world.
DjangoCon US 2027 early bird tickets are live and ready to be bought. The conference will take place in Riverside, California, from September 13th to 17th. Mark your calendars and see you soon!
AI makes code cheap to create, not cheap to own: Agents can recreate functionality easily, which tempts teams to duplicate instead of reuse code. In the long term, this becomes a problem because code deviates and changes depending on requirements, which becomes a pain to maintain. We should aim to reuse components because, as much as AI makes it almost free to generate code, testing, securing, patching, and understanding still carries a significant ownership cost. Always optimise for maintainability and not reproducibility.
Software architecture patterns: Full catalog & how to choose: When it comes to software, there is no universal best choice. The choice depends on the constraints such as team size, expected scale, latency requirements, deployment and cost of ownership. Good architecture is about choosing trade-offs your team can realistically support.
I still like writing websites by hand: this is a reflection on the pleasure of building websites by hand, even with the rise of AI. The act of experimenting and manipulating HTML and CSS rather than simply producing an end result.
You should never be angry at work: being angry at work makes you less effective because people will make decisions around you instead of involving you, which means you are excluded, which leads to more frustration. Instead, we should aim to be calm and emotionally reliable while keeping technical disagreements in perspective.
The Best Multi-Agent Architecture of 2026 Was Designed in 1975: Multi-agent systems are adopting 1970s blackboard and actor architectures using LLMs to collaborate around shared state without a central coordinator. The remaining challenge is therefore not simply enabling agents to collaborate, but making that collaboration trustworthy through enforceable contracts, permissions, dynamic joining/leaving, open interoperability standards, and knowing when multiple agents actually outperform one capable agent.
Good Engineering Doesn’t Trust Engineers: Good engineering should make the reasoning and evidence strong enough that the system can be challenged and proven wrong when its assumptions fail, not because we trust the developer or the AI that generated the code.
Hugging Face is being acquired by NVIDIA for $12.93 billion
Extreme Programming 1999->2026: AI doesn’t eliminate the underlying principles of good software teams. Keep things simple, get feedback quickly, protect quality, collaborate effectively, stay close to customers, and design processes around humans.
The word of the day is Kairos. Kairos describes an ideal time to carry out an action.
Example in a sentence:
He waited for the right kairos to adopt three dogs.
I am making my grand departure into the unknown.
Take care of yourself!
Until the next fortnight, my treasured reader, go forth, and may the odds be ever in your favour! 👏 🤖 ✊ ☠️ 🏹 🪖
