TSBT54: Happy Restful Holidays

Hang in there!

My dearest gentle reader,

I hope you are still hanging in there and not letting end-of-year fatigue get the better of you. Hold on, you only need to survive a couple more days, and you will be enjoying eggnog, hot chocolate, and a well-deserved rest.

It’s one of those weeks where we are rushing to close tickets before we log off and constantly postponing using our favourite word, “circling back next year”.

As we follow up next year and hang in there as we continue the rat race that never ends, Django 6.0 is out. It’s a good time to upgrade and finally use those template partials that were added, along with built-in support for content security policy.

The DjangoCon Europe call for proposals is open, with a deadline of February 8th, 2026.

We just wrapped up our Django London Meetup for 2025, and we are preparing for next year. If you would like to speak next year, please fill out this form.

Let’s get bored and regain a sense of self and mental well-being.

A design system is much more than visual components. It requires skills focused on API design, performance, and developer experience to help teams ship consistently. A few principles of a robust system are type safety, composition, accessibility, and well-written documentation.

Open source does not fail primarily because of poor code, but because of a lack of organisational structure and the art of decision-making and conflict resolution. Most successful open-source projects have good governance, distributed ownership, and a process to ensure long-term sustainability.

Happiness Hints

Git 3.0 will use main as the default branch!

Atomic Design is not its specific labels: atoms, molecules, and organisms, but the foundational concept of hierarchical composition. The methodology’s real value lies in thinking in terms of reusable, modular building blocks that systematically combine to create complex interfaces.

Becoming a Core Developer

Short and sweet like your beautiful week!

The word of the day is multitudinous. Multitudinous describes something that is very numerous or composed of countless individuals or diverse elements.

Example in a sentence:
After years of research, the team finally completed a massive, multitudinous report covering the many different facets of the global climate crisis.

I am making my grand departure into the unknown.

Until the next fortnight, my treasured reader, go forth, and may the odds be ever in your favour! 👏 🤖 ✊ ☠️ 🏹 🪖
